Antioxidant Supplements have shown in recent clinical studies to be effective in slowing down the progression of cataracts and macular degeneration. Antioxidants are also important in supporting the circulatory system, immune system, and many other functions of the body.
Antioxidants include: Vitamins A, C, E, bilberry, ginkgo biloba, grape seed extract, zinc, selenium and others. Consuming a diet rich in leafy green vegetables will supply a lot of Vitamin A, which has been found to be helpful in reducing the progression of age-related macular degeneration in some patients.
Clinical studies have shown the possible reduction in cataract formation with the use if vitamins C and E. In the May 1998 edition of OPHTHALMOLOGY, a study of 764 patients by Dr. Leske concluded that in regular users of supplements, the risk of nuclear cataract was reduced by one third; in regular users of Vitamin E supplements the risk was reduced by approximately one half.

About
William A. Reeves
M.D. graduated from Indiana University Medical School in 1978. Dr. Reeves completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the Naval Regional Medical Center in San Diego, California. in June 1984. He is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He has been practicing General Ophthalmology with a special focus of diseases of the retinal since 1984. Dr. Reeves practices in Brandon and Palm Harbor, Florida.
Dr. Reeves has always had a special interest in vitamin and mineral supplements and in the late 1980’s was recommending extra zinc to his patients with macular degeneration because of the studies showing potential benefits. As Dr. Reeves researched more and more clinical studies about supplements, it became apparent that there were a number of vitamins and minerals that could be beneficial for both the eyes and body.
As Dr. Reeves began to recommend additional supplements to his patients, he realized how cumbersome and expensive this was becoming. In 1996, he decided to have his own product made based on clinical research and affordability.
That year, Dr Reeves founded Helthyiz International, Inc and with collaboration from a retina specialist and a pharmacist, Dr Reeves formulated his product TEBS® Total Eye & Body Support. After careful consideration of various vitamin manufacturers, he chose Vitarich Laboratories in Naples, Florida because of their use of only high quality ingredients and their strict quality control process.
Vitarich Laboratories has been the sole manufacturer for TEBS® vitamin products since 1997. In 2002, Dr. Reeves added 2 more products that are based on the Age Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS ) published in the October 2001 issue of the Archives of Ophthalmology:
